Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on TFC Compensation Payment


Who are eligible to receive the Compensation payment of the TFC depositors?

Individuals, Business entities, Clubs & Societies.


What types of deposits are eligible?

All types of deposits and the nonvoting shares obtained by conversion of fixed deposits.


What is the amount they will be paid under the compensation payment scheme?

A maximum of Rs. 600,000/= per depositor.


Do the depositors get any interest for their deposits under the compensation payment?

All un-paid interest up to 22 May 2020 has been added to the deposit value. No interest will be paid after 22 May 2020.


Does the compensation applicable for share holders?

Yes. Only to the depositors who have converted their deposits in to Non-Voting shares of TFC Depositors can claim the amount by proving only their identity to the Peoples Bank. There is no need for submission of share certificates.


From where this compensation payment can be collected?

You can go to any of their nearest “Peoples Bank” branches for this purpose.


What are the documents that need to be submitted to Peoples‘ Bank?

Original FD Certificates/ Passbooks/ Identity Documents etc.


Can depositors who are currently abroad claim their compensation payment?

Yes. Such depositors can give a “Power of Attorney” to authorize a person in Sri Lanka to collect the compensation amount.


How the depositors can collect the balance left after the compensation payment of Rs. 600,000?

This will be announced after completing payment of compensation to all depositors.


If any issue arisen relates to the Compensation Payment, whom to be contacted?

How can the issues of Incorrect NIC no, Name and Address, loss of certificate, confirmation of nominee and stamped/ mutilated FD certificates be rectified in order to get the compensation payment?

The customer or a representative should call over at TFC Head Office with all available details/ documents to execute a document for rectification.


What to do if nominee details in the information available with the Peoples Bank (Paying Bank) are wrong?

Make a request to TFC Head Office. If such details had been provided to TFC by the depositor, TFC Head Office staff will collect such details from their branch concerned and provide the same to the Central Bank. The details will, in turn, be forwarded by the Central Bank to Peoples Bank for the payment.

How to obtain your Transfer Deed from The Finance Company Limited


All deed transfers of fully settled lands will be processed by a dedicated Notary Division at TFC Head Office located in No 55, R.A. De Mel Mawatha, Colombo 04 (Bambalapitiya).


What should you do to get your deed?

Fill a Deeds Transfer Request Form which is available at the front gate of TFC Head office or which is downloadable from our web site (www.thefinance.lk) and forward it by post or via e-mail to the above Legal Division to start processing the request. Officers at Notary Division will be in touch with you according to your contact details provided for the same.


What information is required for filling the above form?

Your name, national identity card number, contract/facility number, lot number, address and the date loan fully settled.


When will you be able to get your deed?

Priority will be given to the customers who have already paid stamp duties and relevant details of the land have already been received by TFC head office. Other deeds also will be prepared and given to customers accordingly after you send the details.
